John Giorno, Eating the Sky, recorded 1978: “And you’re walking down Second Avenue coming to St. Mark’s Place and all these street junkies and whores and all these straight people going to work, ants coming out of the ground at Astor Place, and why is everybody so ugly?” Also contains the best (and, this week, the most relevant) long description of long travel by trains, planes and automobiles.
